Poetic License Show & Events at HWFC
by Janice Nissen
The Honest Arts Committee invites you to experience Poetic License – Albany! Visit the art HWFC gallery, attend the show reception and poetry reading, and enroll in the collage workshop!
Poetic License – Albany is a collaboration between the Hudson Valley Writers Guild and the Upstate Artists Guild. Building off of the concept of ekphrastic art, in which an artist in one medium responds to a work of art in another medium (usually poetry written in response to paintings, photographs, drawings, etc.), Poetic License – Albany gives local artists an opportunity to respond to the work of poets.
Show dates: September 30 – November 11
Collage Workshops: Thursday, October 10 @ 6:00 PM
Poetry Reading/Open Mic: Monday, October 14 @ 6:30 PM
This is the third year for Poetic License – Albany. In 2022, 113 individual poems were submitted by 62 poets; ultimately, 18 works of visual art were exhibited at the Art Associates Gallery and at Lark Hall in Albany, with 3 readings held in conjunction with the exhibits.
In 2023, the show exhibited during November at the Fish Market Project in Troy AND during December at the Honest Weight Food Co-op in Albany. Thirty-eight poets submitted 42 individual poems and ultimately 19 artists selected 21 poems who ultimately made 31 works of visual art.
In 2024, Poetic License – Albany will include 23 poems and 41 art pieces by 26 artists. Additionally and in conjunction with the show, a poetry reading and a collage workshop with an emphasis on words will be held.
All events are free and open to the public. However, you must register for the collage workshops by registering here or emailing info@upstateartistsguild.org by 10/4/24.
